When should you book a boudoir session?

I realize that often we think we need an excuse, a milestone, or a goal to book a boudoir session but I couldn’t disagree with this more. I get it, a big birthday (hello 40!), losing 30 lbs (what a badass!), or getting married make us think this is a good time to book a shoot. And while that CAN be true…and you will still love the experience, have fun and get killer pictures. I think it’s bigger than that.

Before a milestone birthday we might self evaluate, get nostalgic, and even set new goals so, I could appreciate how a photoshoot could give you something to work for. Hell, even I wanted to lose weight before my first boudoir shoot (at 43!). Most brides that come to me have that strict deadline for their album and are so excited to gift it to their future husbands. So cute but really, they always say how they’ve always wanted to do this.

My thought is this, a boudoir shoot can booked anytime and for any reason, but here’s when I think you will get the most out of your shoot…

  1. When you do it for yourself- whether you’ve been wanting to book one for a long time and saved up or it just suddenly felt like a good idea, booking a shoot is special. It’s a big thing to do for yourself that feels unnecessary and extravagant. Which is why you should do it.

  2. When you are not a great place- some of my favorite boudoir clients are ones coming out of a bad divorce. Hear me out. After feeling betrayed, unworthy, and lonely the most self- confidence inducing thing you can do is book a solo trip or book a boudoir shoot. To show yourself you ARE worthy, and still stunning.

  3. Just because- occasionally, I have an opening in my studio unexpectedly so I announce a model call- which means whomever is available has to come on very short notice, and sign a model release (so I can use the images). Usually, I get so much interest, I get a little waitlist. I love the results because most of the time the women coming in for the last minute booking are doing it “just because”. Maybe they liked my work, maybe they were curious, maybe they’ve always wanted to do one, but really it’s because- “why not"?!”

All that to say, you should book a boudoir shoot whenever you damn well want to and with no necessary excuse. Just as you would a solo trip!
