She came in from out-of- town and left a changed woman…
Reading her review, I realized how much a photoshoot has 3 stories, I really loved reading hers. Her perspective of the photoshoot and the profound transformation and connection she felt within herself and her body. It reminds me of WHY I do this! She let go, trusted me through the entire process and we really did create magic
My story of her photoshoot starts with the phone call, where she told me she had been in funk and for the last few years had really focused on her husband’s spotlight and felt herself recede into the shadows. On top of that, she was feeling self- conscious of her changing body and some additional weight she was carrying. So, she wanted a photoshoot to feel good about herself and remember that she is beautiful and deserving. There was no mention of shooting boudoir, but she knew what I did and had seem my work.
I made sure she was comfortable when she walked into hair and makeup and got right to work thinking about how I could take her on this journey to self- love and acceptance. She had brought stunning gowns and some comfortable soft clothes that she felt good in (followed my recommendations- yay!) and wanted to also capture some pictures she could use in her branding for her business. As I looked at her clothes, it dawned on me that sometimes we hide behind the armor of clothes. Hoping it will speak to who we are and what we are worth. As I mulled over an idea I had, I knew I was going to ask this woman (that I barely knew) to do something that might make her SUPER uncomfortable.
Well, not only was she game, she ROCKED it and the results were AHMAZING. We did her Branding (above), we shot some killer glamorous portraits that both she AND her husband ended up LOVING…
and then she was not only open to my idea but was fully committed to it. I suggested some more vulnerable picture. Intimate ones that she could see her body in all its glory and splendor. Really see it as the expression of art that it is. I knew it was a stretch and I was ok to have her interpret that however she wanted to so that she could be comfortable!
This incredible, bold, powerhouse of a woman proceeded to come out of the changing room in a robe and take it off without abandon. Fully nude, I directed her posing and got to work! The results speak for themselves, and I know she was so glad she did it! She felt beautiful, strong and connected to her body like she hadn’t in years!
