7 Things to hype yourself up before a boudoir shoot!

I was 42 years old when I did my first boudoir shoot. Not my youngest, most fit self.  That’s not why I did it, you can read about that here ) but the facts are that I was nervous as hell.

I did the homework the photographer gave me, followed her instructions for prepping, and did a little shopping, but I missed a few things.  Having experienced it, and seeing it all the time in my studio, I now understand what we can do to best prepare for that Boudoir shoot and ease the nerves (notice ease, not remove).  My clients get detailed homework, including an inspiration board, links to my favorite products, and no, nos.  So, here are my recommendations:

1. Tell your hype people!

The first thing you should do is tell the most supportive people in your life. They will be so excited for you, and reassure you before the date! Some might even want to come with you (one friend is welcome) but if nothing else, they will get you even more excited and help you forget your insecurities.

2.  Create a bada$$ playlist.

You know, all the songs that you cannot help but dance and sing to in the car? The ones that you and your girlfriends would put on if you were getting ready for a night out. The songs that make you feel like a queen and invincible so you own the room.  You know the ones.

3.  Do the homework.

A great photographer will have detailed instructions for you.  What to bring, what to do/ not do so that you can look your best.  Usually, this assignment may involve a little shopping, some moisturizing, and lots of rest/ minimal alcohol.  Basically, look radiant and rested.  None should involve starving yourself or overexercising.

4. Check the scheduled time and directions and set a reminder for when to leave.

I made the mistake o misreading the time and was having a coffee a block away thinking I arrived too early.  I highly recommend double-checking your scheduled time, adding the address to your calendar, and setting a reminder to go off for when you should leave. I run a tight studio with shoots, client pickups, and installations back to back so if you are late, that time eats into your shoot.

5. Remind yourself WHY you are doing this.

A few clients come in two do it for their husbands, but most? Do it for themselves.  Because they want to remember and reconnect with that badass version of themselves that has maybe been buried under work, babies, or age.  When you get nervous, remember this why, it will set you at ease and remind you of the final gains. AN incredible album or stunning wall art that will forever show you that version of you.

6. If possible, prepay for your desired package.

In my studio, right after the shoot, you get to hang out, and immediately look at your images. However, the adrenaline and excitement will subside into exhaustion and you may feel slightly overwhelmed at making decisions and picking images/ packages.  The best way to alleviate this is to select a package you are interested in, go ahead, and get approved for synchrony bank (link) if you need it, and you will be on your way!  That way on the day of, you only have to worry about selecting your favorite images!

7. Trust and have fun!

This may be the hardest part for us women.  Trust that you chose the right photographer (because you did ;) and that she is so excited to create killer images of you.  Trust that you will look amazing and love the finished product. IF you struggle with this, no worries we give you a little liquid courage to help you along- Sei bellissima!
