How to Zhuzh Up Your Holiday Cards This Year
If your holiday cards are feeling a little blasé and predictable, it’s time to zhuzh things up. Yes, zhuzh, jooge, juge - however you choose to spell it, let's dress your holiday images up this year and add a little sparkle, personality, and style to the annual card tradition.
This year, I’m all about leaving behind the holiday cards of yesteryear for something a little more exciting. Let’s leave the same ol’ images behind and instead snap some pictures of the full glitz and glamour experience that we all deserve?
That’s why I am offering holiday mini-sessions that will capture the Gatsby-esque vibe of your dreams and really send some pizzazz out when your contact list receives your season’s greetings this year.
If you’re not in Austin (or near enough to drive in for a shoot), here are some quick tips for how you can glam up your holiday cards this year.
Ditch the Stiff Poses
You know the stiff look and you know as much as I do that it doesn’t look good...ever. You want moments that capture that je ne sais quoi of the holidays, that fun spontaneity and spark. You want…glitz, glamour, and a whole lot of fun. And besides, these are the holiday photos that will leave and impression. That’s why it’s so important to work with a professional photographer who knows a thing or two about posing (ahem, cough, cough – that’s me). You’ll come, you’ll pose and what’s the saying? “I guarantee you’ll love the way you look.”
Choose a Color Palette That Pops
Ok, I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve stressed over wardrobe selection a time or two. You want to get it right, but you don’t want it to be overdone. The clothing and colors you select should feel like you, and no, you don’t have to go with traditional holiday colors or glitz. You can absolutely always mix posh andplayful.
Find your vibe and go with it. When you feel good, your portraits will look good. I promise. And if you have questions about what to wear, I’m happy to offer my two cents during our consult.
Add Texture and Layers
Think soft knits, velvet dresses, wool scarves, or a touch of faux fur – and maybe a feather boa or two. These touches add visual interest, warmth, and depth to your portraits and look especially good in black and whites. For me, I’m all about that mise-en-scene. Bring some great accessories like a bottle of champagne, stillettos, and a disco ball. Because why should holiday photos only be about Christmas? New Year’s is just as fun.
Send a Portrait You Actually Love
Don’t rush your holiday card because you feel like you “just need to get something out.” Feature a portrait that makes you (or your entire family) feel seen, beautiful, and confident! Because, spoiler alert: you are.
